Applications for Key Contributors 2024 Now Open

Togatus is the independent student media at the University of Tasmania, by students, for students. It is a place for discussion, debate, and rebellion. Togatus offers a fun, non-hierarchical working environment, with major creative decisions being determined by consensus and financial parity strived towards among our editorial team of co-editors and creative director.  

Expressions of Interest for the position of Key Contributor are now open. Four Key Contributor positions are available. This is the first round of applications. If all positions are not filled, a second round of applications will commence closer to the beginning of Semester 1. 

This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in media and communications. This position comes with a great potential for professional development, networking, and an increased connection with the student community. Most importantly, it’ll be a lot of fun! 

Contract:  A contract for the year of 2024. Remunerated by honoraria ($500 annually). 

Demand: Roughly 1 piece every 6 weeks.

Responsibilities

Key Contributors are primarily responsible for the production of high quality articles/creative pieces for Togatus publication. In collaboration with the Editorial Team, the Key Contributors will write regular articles for either print or online publication. They are also responsible for assisting the Deputy Editor in the editing processes of Togatus when need be.   

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Grammar and content editing of written submissions
  • Assist in proofreading print editions after the design stage.
  • Attend meetings organised by the Editorial Team, as required.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must be currently enrolled at the University of Tasmania. A Media, English, Creative Writing, or Journalism major/minor is advantageous but not required.

Desirable Skills

The ideal candidate will have good written and verbal communication skills, and an excellent eye for editorial detail. They will demonstrate a strong command of the English language. They will have some experience in content production (written and/or visual).
