Expression of Interest: Key Contributor

Togatus is the independent student media at the University of Tasmania, by students, for students. It is a place for discussion, debate, and dissent on any aspect of the university student experience. Togatus offers a fun, collaborative working environment where freedom of expression and creativity is encouraged.

This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in media and communications. This position comes with a great potential for professional development, networking, and an increased connection with the student community.

Four Key Contributor positions are available. 

Contract:  The contract commences on the 10th of March and ends on the 30th of November 2021. Remunerated by honoraria ($1000 annually). 

Demand: Fluctuating, approximately 5 hours per week. 


Key Contributors are primarily responsible for the production of high quality articles for Togatus publication. In collaboration with the Editorial Team, the Key Contributors will write regular articles for either print or online publication (at least one article per month of their contract). They are also responsible for assisting the Deputy Editor in the editing processes of Togatus. This can include:

  • Grammar and content editing of written submissions
  • Assist in proofreading print editions after the design stage.
  • Attend all meetings organised by the Editor-in-Chief, as required.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must be currently enrolled at the University of Tasmania. A Bachelor of Media degree or Journalism major/minor is advantageous but not required.

Desirable Skills

The ideal candidate will have good written and verbal communication skills, and an excellent eye for editorial detail. They will demonstrate a strong command of the English language. They will have some experience in content production. 

Immediate Supervisor

Deputy Editor, ultimately responsible to the Editor-in-Chief.
