Students condemn violent attacks
The Tasmania University Union today reiterates its condemnation of the recent violent attacks and robberies on students from the University.
A concerned TUU State President Saleh Bintalib said “While concerned with these recent incidents, they seem to be crimes of an opportunistic nature and the TUU would urge all parties not to speculate more than what we know.”
The TUU is also disappointed and refutes the comments made by the National Liaison Committee last August that students are now carrying weapons. Comments such as this do nothing more than to create fear and anxiety in the community.
The NLC is a body that is not recognised by almost all student representations and Universities.
“The TUU will be working closely with the student body, the University and our partners in the community to ensure student safety is a top priority” Mr Bintalib added.
