The guitar that I got when I was 15 has a very distinct sound, so when I hear that sound [of my guitar] on the radio it’s strange, because I’ve known that sound since I was 15... I feel very proud of my little guitar that it’s made it onto radio.

Ingrid Betancourt was a presidential candidate for Colombia in 2002 when she was captured by the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) and spent the next six and a half years as a prisoner in various parts of the Amazonian jungle. She spoke to Tasmanian Times writer James Dryburgh last week.
